Gary Nova is a quarterback for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights of the Big Ten Conference. He enters 2014 ranking fifth in program history in completions with 502.
Nova attended Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey. He started for two years and finished with an undefeated mark of 24-0 and two state championships as well as a national title in 2009 as a junior. Rivals.com ranked Nova as the number 11 pro-style quarterback recruit in the country.
Nova appeared in 10 games and started five as a true freshman at Rutgers in 2011. He threw his first career touchdown against North Carolina Central in the Scarlet Knights’ season opener. His first career start came against Pittsburgh as Rutgers won by a score of 34-10. Nova threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Nova started all 13 games in 2012 and threw 22 touchdown passes while tallying 2,695 yards through the air. His best game of the season came against Arkansas on the road as he was named the Big EAST Offensive Player of the Week. In the 35-26 victory, he completed 25 of 35 passes for 397 yards and five touchdowns.
Nova started 10 games in 2013 and threw for 2,159 yards and 18 touchdowns. He had another big game against Arkansas, earning American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for his 346 yards passing and three touchdowns as the Scarlet Knights beat the Razorbacks again. Nova earned the AAC Offensive Player of the Week award again against Temple when he threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns.
