Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon, sometimes known by the shortened name of Gigi Buffon, was born in Carrara, Italy on 28 January 1978. Noted for his shot-stopping, commanding presence and leadership, he is considered by many to be the best goalkeeper of his generation and one of the best goalkeepers of all time. Over the course of the next few seasons, Buffon established himself as the club's number one goalkeeper and one of the biggest prospects in world football. In 2001, he completed a move to Juventus, for a transfer fee in excess of €51 million. As a result, he became the most expensive goalkeeper in history.
