Guzan, Aston Villa Player of the Year
Brad Guzan is certain the resilience and hard work shown by everyone at Aston Villa has helped them in their battle against relegation.
The American goalkeeper has only missed two games this season and his form earned him the club's Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Year awards, but he was quick to praise the whole squad after a tough season.
After flirting with relegation for large parts of the season, back-to-back victories have seen Villa move into 13th position with 40 points, five points clear of the bottom three with just two games remaining.
And Guzan is happy that the effort shown by the team throughout the season, and particularly in recent weeks, was getting the rewards they deserved in terms of points.
"It has been a complete team effort this year," he told the club's official website. "In certain games guys have stepped up big time like Gabby (Agbonlahor) at Norwich.
"They are examples of guys stepping up and contributing to the greater cause.
"To have them in front of you blocking shots, stopping crosses and tackling - doing all those things that go unnoticed that help me as a goalkeeper - is tremendous."
Despite some of their performances being below the level expected by the Villa faithful Guzan has been impressed with their loyalty and wants to put on a good performance in their final two games of the season against Chelsea and Wigan to reward them.
"I'm very thankful of the support," he added. "The fans have been such a class act from day one and they are always right behind us."
