Etuini Haloti Ngata is a defensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl Champion.
Ngata was born in Inglewood California on January 21, 1984. He played on the defensive line as a three-year starter at Highland High School in Utah. He played both football and rugby in his high school years. In 2001, Ngata was named Utah Gatorade Player of the Year and was ranked as the second best prospect in the nation by Rivals.com.
After tearing his ACL in his freshman year, Ngata managed to achieve Pacific-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year recognition as a Consensus All-American. In his senior year he recorded 61 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and three sacks. He would declare as an early entry for the 2006 NFL Draft.
The Baltimore Ravens selected Ngata as the 12th overall pick in the 2006 draft. He was a rookie starter and developed into a staple on the Ravens defensive line. He helped the organization win Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers.
Ngata has been a valuable player for a series of tough Ravens’ defenses in recent history. He’s bolstered the run defense as one of the best in the league and can also put pressure on the quarterback. He currently has 23.5 sacks as a defensive tackle and continues to serve as a force in the middle of the defensive line.
