How Important Is Physical Fitness in Youth Soccer?
There is no doubting the fact that physical fitness is one of the most important parts of being an elite youth soccer player.
If you aren't in great shape, you aren't going to be able to make the great plays when it matters most. Soccer is a game of endurance, and if you haven't properly prepared your body for the grind, you aren't going to be as effective for your team.
U.S. Men's National Team and Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey knows all about this.
Dempsey has played at the highest levels of competition in professional soccer since beginning his career in 2004. He's played for Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League and also starred for the Sounders and New England Revolution in the MLS.
Of course, he's also been a key part of the rise of the men's national team as captain and one of the top goal-scorers.
Dempsey himself admits that excellent physical fitness has allowed him to be so successful as a soccer player. Without the ability to make it through these grueling games -- sometimes in extremely hot conditions as was the case at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil -- he wouldn't be considered one of the top players in the US.
He shares his advice on how to properly prepare your body in the video below.
If you want to take your game to the next level and be in position to make that clutch play when your team needs it most, follow this advice from one of the best that the US has to offer.
