Jairus Bryd is a free safety for the New Orleans Saints. Byrd is the son of Gill Byrd, who is the cornerbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Byrd was born on October 7, 1986 in San Diego, California. He played high school football at Clayton High School in St. Louis County, Missouri. As a QB, WR, and safety, Byrd was named the Missouri 4A Offensive Player of the Year, leading his school to the state championship in 2004.
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON
After redshirting his first year in Oregon, Byrd started at corner, recording 56 tackles and five interceptions on his way to being named the Pac-10 co-freshman player of the year. As a sophomore, he led the conference with seven interceptions and was named to the All-Pac-10 first team as a junior.
He passed on his season senior to enter the NFL.
Byrd was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
After a strong season, Byrd was put on the IR on December 23, 2009. As a rookie, he started 11 of 14 games he played, finishing tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, earning his first trip to the Pro-Bowl.
In five seasons, Byrd has been to three Pro-Bowls, named an All-Pro three times, and led the AFC in interceptions twice.
According to reports, Byrd wanted to be traded from the Bills after the team used the franchise tag on him before the 2013 NFL Season.
