Jason Spriggs is an offensive tackle for the Indiana University Hoosiers of the Big Ten Conference. He is a 2014 pre-season third team All-Big Ten selection by Phil Steele.
Spriggs attended Concord High School in Indiana. He was an offensive tackle, a defensive end and a long snapper as a prep athlete. In 2011 he was named to the All-State team for his work on the defensive line and the Indiana Football Coaches Association Top 50 for his play on the offensive line.
Spriggs put up some big numbers on defense in high school, tallying 58 tackles, seven sacks and three forced fumbles to go along with three fumble recoveries. 247sports.com ranked Spriggs as the number-17 recruit in the state of Indiana. He also starred in basketball, lacrosse and track & field.
Spriggs started every game as a true freshman at Indiana in 2012. He was tops on the Hoosiers with 80 knockdowns. Spriggs gave up only two sacks in 961 plays from scrimmage. IU finished second in the conference in total offense (442 yards per game). The offensive line as a whole had a great season as they did not allow a sack in five of the games and only gave up one sack per 31.8 pass attempts, tops in the Big Ten.
CollegeFootballNews.com named Spriggs an Honorable Mention Freshman All-American and ESPN.com & BTN.com both put Spriggs on their All-Big Ten Freshman team. 247sports.com named Spriggs to their All-Big Ten second team and he was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection by the media and coaches.
In 2013 Spriggs continued to hold down the left tackle spot, starting every game once again for the Hoosiers. Indiana’s offense took off, tallying a program record 6102 total yards. He was named the team’s offensive player of the week for his performance against Purdue. Springs was once again an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection by the media and coaches.
