Graham was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on November 24, 1986, but was placed into a group home at age 11. As a senior at Community Christian in Wilson, N.C. and Charis Prep in Wilson, N.C., Graham became a basketball star and earned a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Miami.
UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
After playing four years of basketball for the Hurricanes, Graham played a year of football while he took graduate classes. As a tight end, Graham finished his lone season with 17 catches for 214 yards and five touchdowns.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Because he had only one year of football experience, Graham fell to the 95th overall pick to the Saints in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Graham played behind Jeremy Shockey for most of his first season, but did make five starts. He finished his rookie season with 31 receptions, 356 yards, and five TDs.
With Shockey gone, 2011 was Graham’s year to shine, becoming the first Saints’ TE to have more than a 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He finished the season with a franchise-tying 99 catches for 1,310 and 11 TDs, earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl.
When Graham became a free agent after the 2013 NFL Season, the Saints placed the franchise tag on him. After lining up as a wide, receiving on 66 percent of plays, Graham wanted to be tagged as a WR, which would allow him to make $5 million more. On July 2, 2014, an arbitrator ruled that Graham was a TE for the purpose of the franchise tag.
