Bio

Jimmy Smith is a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens. In 2013, he played all 16 games as the starting cornerback. In his rookie season, he became a Super Bowl champion.

Early Life

Smith was born on July 26, 1988 in Fontana California. Smith was unranked by ESPN as a prospect headed to college. His abilities in high school were considered average before enrolling into Colorado University.

Colorado Buffaloes

Every year at Colorado, Smith developed his skills as a first-round draft pick. He didn’t accumulate many interceptions but exhibited sound coverage skills and tackled very well. He knew how to locate the football and attack the ball carrier; he established a physical presence on the field. The teams he played on weren’t title contending BCS teams but Smith made the most of his collegiate career showcasing his talent.

Baltimore Ravens

There were questions about Smith’s maturity prior to being drafted but he was selected by the Ravens as the 27th overall pick in the 2011 draft. His upside outweighed the question marks on his character. After former Ravens CB Cary Williams signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, Smith earned his starting position in the 2013 season.  He recorded 49 tackles and two interceptions as a full season starter. Smith enters his fourth NFL season in a talented Ravens’ defensive backfield where he’s expected to continue start at cornerback opposite Lardarius Webb.
