João Moutinho



João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho, usually known as João Moutinho, was born in Portimão, Algarve on 8 September 1986. Primarily a central midfielder, he is known for his passing, creative talents, set pieces, workrate and tackling. His versatility allows him to function in both holding and attacking midfield roles and he is also able to play as a winger when required.

As a youngster, Moutinho played for his local side, Portimonense, before moving to the Sporting Clube de Portugal youth academy in 1999. He made the breakthrough to the senior squad as a 17 year old during the 2004-05 season, making a total of 26 appearances in all competitions and helping the side to reach the UEFA Cup final.
