Babineaux was born on October 12, 1981 in Port Arthur, Texas. While at Lincoln High School, he was the captain of the football as a senior and was named to the All-Conference First-Team as a linebacker. He was also the team’s punter, averaging 40 yards per punt.

As a senior at the University of Iowa, Babineaux recorded 51 total tackles and 10 sacks. He also added a force fumble.
Babineaux was drafted by the Falcons with the 59th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.
He came into the league as a defensive end, but only made seven starts with 1.5 sacks in his first two seasons in the NFL.
After being moved to defensive tackle, he made nine starts and had 41 tackles and three sacks in his third season. Since then, he has started every game he has played in, including 2009 when he had a career-high six sacks.
In his career, Babineaux also has 21 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and two defensive TDs.
