Stewart was born on March 21, 1987 in Fort Lewis, Washington. At Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington, in his four years, Stewart rushed for a Washington Prep High School record 7,755 yards and had 105 TDs.
As a junior, he rushed for 2,566 yards and had 45 TDs. As a senior, he had 2,301 yards and 32 TDs and named the Washington Gatorade Player of the Year.
UNIVERISTY OF OREGON
Stewart was used sparingly on offense as a freshman. Despite touching the ball on 60 times, he still managed seven TDs on offense. He added another two on kick returns.
As a junior, Stewart led the Pac-10 Confernce with 1,722 rushing yards (fifth in the nation) to go along with 11 TDs. He was selected to the All-Pac-10 First-Team and was an All-American Honorable Mention.
Stewart was drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He was ranked a top-3 RB in the draft along with Darren McFadden and Rashard Mendenhall.
He had a Panthers rookie-record 10 rushing TDs to go along with 836 rushing yards in his first year in Carolina.
He followed that with another 10 TDs and a career-high 1,133 rushing yards, good for ninth in the NFL, despite splitting carries with DeAngelo Williams.
Since then, Stewart has split the carries with Williams and has dealt with injuries. He has been limited to 15 games in the past two seasons and only has scored on rushing TD in that span.
