Rudolph was born on November 9, 1989 in Cincinnati Ohio. As a senior at Elder High School he was a USA Today All-American. Rivals.com rated him the 20th overall player and the best tight end in his recruiting class. He accepted a scholarship to play for Notre Dame.

Rudolph was the first tight end in Notre Dame’s school history to start every game as a true freshman. He exhibited great hands as a receiving tight end throughout his collegiate career. Despite having much potential and talent, he had issues remaining healthy following his freshman season that was so promising. In his sophomore year, he missed playing time with a shoulder injury and in his junior year a hamstring injury limited his time on the field. At the end of his junior season, he decided to declare for the 2011 NFL Draft.
The Minnesota Vikings drafted Rudolph in the second round of the 2011 draft with high hopes of adding more offense to QB Christian Ponder’s arsenal. In 2012, Rudolph became a viable threat in the end zone catching nine touchdowns as a starting tight end. He also earned Pro Bowl honors and was named Pro Bowl MVP. He was unable to replicate his Pro Bowl season after missing half of the 2013 season with a fractured bone in his foot.
