La’el Collins is a left offensive tackle for the Louisiana State University Tigers of the Southeastern Conference. He enters the 2014 season as a pre-season third team All-American according to Phil Steele.
Collins attended Redemptorist High School in Louisiana. He was named a first team Parade All-American and was considered a five-star prospect across the board. Rivals listed Collins as the top recruit in the entire state and he ranked as the number-eight recruit in the nation by ESPN. Collins made multiple All-American teams including USA Today’s.
College played right away in seven games as a true freshman at LSU in 2011 but did not start. He tallied five knockdown blocks on the year and CBSsports.com named him a freshman All-American. Collins started all 13 games at offensive guard in 2012 as a sophomore. An Associated Press Honorable Mention All-SEC selection, Collins recorded a team-leading 64.5 knockdowns. His performance against #1 Alabama earned Collins SEC Co-Lineman of the Week honors.
Collins moved to left tackle in 2013 and earned a spot on the All-SEC second team as voted upon by the coaches. He recorded 65 knockdowns and the Tigers’ offense rushed for a program record 37 touchdowns. The offense also set a program record with more than 465 yards of total offense per game. He was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his first start at left tackle against TCU.
Entering the 2014 season, Collins has recorded 134.5 knockdowns in his decorated LSU career.
