Lahm welcomes midfield opportunity

Philipp Lahm would relish the opportunity to play in midfield for Germany at the FIFA World Cup later this year.
The Bayern Munich captain has made his name as a marauding full-back, but coach Pep Guardiola has employed him in the middle of the park for the European champions this season.
Lahm has looked very much at home in his new role and is set to play in midfield for his country in a friendly against Chile on Wednesday in the absence of injured duo Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira.
The 30-year-old, who also captains his country, is enjoying playing in his new position for the Bavarian giants and would welcome the opportunity to play in a more advanced position on the biggest stage of all in Brazil.
He told reporters: "I feel comfortable in that position.
"It is something new, new situations in midfield and you face different situations from those as a full-back.
"I can imagine playing there in the coming weeks, months or years but I will always play where the coach thinks I am most needed.
"There are still a few months to go until the World Cup and we will see who is fit, who is injured and who is in form, and at the end of the day it is the coach who decides."
