Lance Louis Unexpectedly Cut By Miami
The Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday that they were cutting ties with OG Lance Louis. Louis logged significant time over the last three seasons with the Chicago Bears before tearing his ACL late last year.
Even though he was returning from ACL surgery, his release comes as a surprise to many as he was expected to challenge fellow G John Jerry for the starting spot. As recently as last week it was reported that Louis was the favorite to win the job. Jerry, who returned to the practice field Aug. 20 after dealing with his own knee issues, should retain the job. His release is also an indication that reports of his outplaying undrafted free agent rookie Josh Samuda during training camp were greatly exaggerated.
Another one of GM Jeff Ireland’s many offseason signings, Louis inked a one-year deal worth $1.6 million in March. Without having him on the field for any meaningful games, the Dolphins still managed to sink $125,000 into him before cutting him loose.
The 28-year-old Louis should latch on somewhere else. If not, he may sign a reduced contract with the Dolphins.
