Land Ho! Revis Island Sighted At Bucs Camp
By Corbin Smith
When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired CB Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets prior to the NFL Draft in April, many expected that Revis would not play until Week 1 of the regular season. However, the star's rehab appears to be ahead of schedule and "Revis Island" could be making his Buccaneer debut earlier than originally expected. On the Buccaneers twitter account, the team posted two different tweets containing pictures showing Revis breaking up passes, which would be an encouraging sign as he continues to become more involved in full contact drills and team drills.
Coach Greg Schiano and his staff most likely will choose to stay cautious with Revis, but if he continues to make plays at practice and display the athleticism that made him one of the game's premier shutdown corners while with the Jets, Tampa may have no choice but to get him some snaps in a few preseason games. ACL injuries such as the one Revis suffered last season have different timetables for each player, and Vikings RB Adrian Peterson proved last year that some guys recover much quicker than others. Maybe Revis fits into that same "superhuman" category and his rehab has reached the point where he is ready to return to game action. If that is the case, that is the best news the Buccaneers could have asked for this early in the season.
