Leonard Floyd is a linebacker for the University of Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference. His outstanding freshman season earned his a pre-season third team All-American selection in 2014 by Phil Steele.
Floyd attended Dodge County High School in Georgia and Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia where he was a Rivals.com, ESPN.com and a Scout.com four-star recruit. He was named to the SuperPrep All-Dixie Team. Floyd enjoyed a monster junior season at Dodge County HS, finishing with 81 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and six sacks. He also starred on offense, recording 549 receiving yards at tight end and three touchdowns. He was recruited out of high school by the likes of Alabama and Florida but chose to attend Georgia.
As a true freshman in 2013, Floyd made eight starts and participated in 13 games. He was named to Phil Steele’s Freshman All-American team. He recorded 55 tackles, 34 of which were solo stops, 9.5 tackles for loss and led the Bulldogs and all SEC freshmen in sacks with 6.5. Floyd forced two fumbles as well and blocked a field goal against Auburn. He finished with eight tackles against Nebraska in the Gator Bowl, matching his season-high set against LSU.
Floyd is on the Nagurski Trophy Watch List to begin the 2014 season. The Nagurski Trophy is given to the best defensive player in the country.
