Liga MX Preview: America eye away win, Leon look to bounce back

America will aim to secure a fourth consecutive away win in Liga MX for the first time in eight years when they face Santos Laguna.

The league leaders go into Saturday's Round 10 clash having won their last six matches, three of them on the road, and another success on away soil would represent their best run since 2005.

They were crowned Clausura champions that year and look well set for another strong challenge this time around, leading by two points with two games in hand.

And while the visitors have shown remarkable consistency, the home side have struggled to string results together.

A return of three victories, four draws and one defeat from their eight league games so far underlines Santos Laguna's erratic form.

They have failed to score in their last two matches, one of which was a Copa MX draw against second division Cruz Azul Hidalgo.

As America go in search of another victory, the chasing pack will be looking to keep the pressure on the defending champions.

Leon were beaten by Chiapas in their last outing and face a trip to mid-table Veracruz.

Gustavo Matosas' men saw their unbeaten record ended by that loss and they sit three points behind the leaders.

Morelia are the biggest threat to America but they too failed to win their last match as they had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at Atlante.

They meet Pumas UNAM away from home this weekend.

Also among the early front-runners are Cruz Azul, whose run of four victories from five games has propelled them to fourth.

They welcome a Tigres UANL outfit who have not won in their last four league clashes.

At the other end of the table, winless Atlante travel to Queretaro as the hosts seek their fourth success on the bounce.

Monterrey will aim to win for just the second time in Liga MX this term when they face Pachuca, while Chiapas, up to sixth after back-to-back victories, face Atlas, who have drawn six and won none of their nine games.

Elsewhere, Puebla host Toluca, and Guadalajara face Tijuana at home.
