Bio

Mark Barron is a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played college football for the University of Alabama and was drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

EARLY YEARS

Barron was born on October 27, 1989 in Mobile, Alabama. He played running back, wide receiver, and linebacker for St. Paul’s Episcopal High School. As a senior, Barron rushed for 1,094 yards and 15 TDs and was named the MVP of the 2007 Class 5A state championship game.

He was ranked as a five-star prospect and the best weakside linebacker in the class by Scouts.com. He was ranked the 55th-best player in the nation by Rivals.com

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA

After playing mainly special teams as a freshman, Barron took over as the starter at safety. He was second on the team with 74 tackles and led the SEC with seven interceptions, including a career-high two interceptions against Mississippi State. He was first-team All-SEC and a third-team All-American.

As a senior, Barron was a unanimous All-American selection after recording 68 tackles, two interceptions, and one sack

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Barron was drafted with the 7th-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers.

Barron started every game at strong safety as a rookie, recording 89 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and 10 pass deflections. Despite playing on the worst ranking pass defense in the NFL, Barron was named to the All-Rookie team by the Professional Football Writers of America.
