Marques Colston is a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints. He was a seventh-round draft pick that turned into the Saints All-Time Leading Receiver.
Colston was born on June 5, 1983 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His father, James Colston, played in the Canadian Football League, introducing Marques to the sport at a young age.
Colston attended Susquehanna Township High School, where he lettered in football and track. He was an All-Conference player as a wide receiver and defensive end.
After turning down an offer from DI-A University of Missouri, Colston chose to go to the University of Hofstra as a WR. He redshirted his first year on campus because of a shoulder injury, but in 37 starts, Colston recorded 182 catches and a school-record 2,834 yards to go along with 18 TDs.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Expecting to be moved to TE due to his size, Colston was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 252nd pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, four spots before the last pick.
As a rookie, Colston, who started every game, finished the season among the NFC leaders with 70 receptions, 1,038 receiving yards, and eight TDs. He finished tied for second in voting for Offensive Rookie of the Year with Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew and behind Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young.
Is his second season, Colston set career hights with 98 catches, 1,202 yards, and 11 TDs, which he did again in 2012. He holds the NFL record for most receptions in a player’s first two seasons with 168 catches.
He is currently the Saints franchise leader in career receiving yards (8,337), yards from scrimmage (8,344), receiving TDs (63), total TDs (63), career receptions (607), and most seasons with 1,000 receiving yards (6).
