Match Preview: Columbus Crew vs. Houston Dynamo
With the recent signing of Austrian defender Emanuel Pogatetz on Monday and a 3-0 win over Chivas U.S.A last Saturday, the Crew look to be in top shape for the match against the Houston Dynamo this Saturday at 8:30 PM ET. Although Columbus doesn't have the greatest away record, losing to the Montreal Impact recently, they have proved they can beat the Dynamo with a recent win of 3-0 at home.
Defensively, since adding the new Premier League defender along with MLS All-Star Michael Parkhurst in the back, the Crew should be on the upper hand. As for the offensive position, the Crew saw the likes of Bernardo Anor on the field last Saturday for the first time in months due to a left hamstring strain.
In his first game back Anor had one goal alongside the man of the moment Justin Meram who finished the win with two goals. Meram has been leading the Crew with shots and goals lately with a total of seven this season. He uses the wings well and wide along with Ethan Finlay and Frederico Higuain who together make impressive attacking runs. Also returning will be midfielder Will Trapp, who was out last game due to a double yellow.
The playoffs are well upon us and this weekend is a crucial part of moving the Crew up in the standings. Currently the Crew is tied in the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union for 5th place with 36 points. As for the Dynamo, they are sitting in 8th in the Western Conference with a total of 31 points. If the Columbus Crew can set aside the "on the road fever" they seem to have, they should surely make it out with a win this weekend.
