Matri calls for more clinical Milan after 'absurd' loss

Milan striker Alessandro Matri has called for his team-mates to be more clinical in front of goal following Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Napoli.

Rafael Benitez's side, who came into the game having not beaten Milan in Serie A at San Siro for 27 years, carved out a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Miguel Britos and Gonzalo Higuain.

And they subsequently held on to clinch the win after Mario Balotelli saw his second-half penalty saved by Pepe Reina before netting a brilliant late consolation strike.

But Matri feels Milan did not get the right rewards for one of their best performances of the season and is blaming his side's lack of composure in front of goal.

"We conceded early and that penalised us," he told the club's official website.

"From a gameplay point of view, it was one of our best matches to date this season.

"It's almost absurd that this is the game that we had the most chances to score. I had two and so did Mario Balotelli.

"Maybe we have to be more clinical in front of goal and things would be easier."

The result leaves Milan stranded in 11th place in Serie A, having won just once in their opening four matches.

Napoli, meanwhile, occupy second after maintaining their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
