Bio

Matt Ryan is a quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. He is a two-time Pro-Bowler and was the 2008 NFL Rookie of the Year.

EARLY YEARS

Ryan was born on May 17, 1985 in Exton, Pennsylvania. He attended and played high school football at Williams Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, where he was a three-year starter. He threw for more than 1,300 yards and nine TDs as a senior and was named to the All-League team each of his years as a starter.

Ryan was named the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams as a senior, where he played QB, small forward, and pitcher/shortstop, respectively.

BOSTON COLLEGE

After a few quiet seasons in Boston, Ryan began to take form as a junior, throwing for almost 3,000 yards and 15 TDs. But it was his senior season that drew people’s attention. In 2007, Ryan threw for 4,500 yards and 31 TDs in 14 games.

ATLANTA FALCONS

Ryan was drafted third overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft. He signed a six-year, $72 million deal with the Falcons on May 20, 2008.

He started week 1 for the Falcons, becoming the first rookie since Michael Vick in 2001 to start at QB for the Falcons. As a rookie, he led the team to an 11-5 record and a playoff appearance on his way to being named the NFL Rookie of the Year.

Prior to the 2013 NFL, Ryan led the Falcons to the playoffs each season with a minimum of nine wins each year. Including 2013, Ryan has thrown three consecutive 4,000 or more yard seasons and had a career-high 32 TD passes in 2012. On December 30, 2013, Ryan became the franchise’s leader in passing yards.

Before the 2012 NFL Season, Ryan agreed to a five-year extension worth over $100 million.
