Bio

LeShawn Maurkice Pouncey is a center for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and the winner of the 2009 Dave Rimington Trophy.

Early Life

Pouncey was born in Lakeland Florida on July 24, 1989. In his senior year, he led Lakeland High School to a third state championship as an offensive lineman. He went on to play for the Florida Gators on a scholarship.

Florida Gators

As soon as Pouncey stepped on campus at Florida he was a starter for Urban Meyer’s Gators as a guard. In 2008, he won a National BCS Championship on a Florida team led by Tim Tebow. In 2009, he won the Dave Rimington Trophy, an award given to the best center in the NCAA. He decided to enter the 2010 NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh Steelers

After former center Justin Hartwig retired, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected a new anchor for the offensive line. Pouncey was drafted as the 18th overall pick in the 2010 draft.  He was selected to the Pro Bowl as an All-Pro for the first three years of his NFL career.

After tearing his ACL in 2013, Pouncey will return with a five-year $44 million extension, hoping to return to Pro Bowl form in the middle of the Steelers young offensive line. Though he’s only entering his fifth NFL season he is the leader of an offensive line that struggled without him in 2013.
