Michael Carrick



Michael Carrick was born in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear on 28 July 1981. A central midfielder, who primarily operates in a defensive midfield role, he is known for his accurate passing, creative talents and positional sense.

Carrick spent most of his youth at Wallsend Boys Club, before joining West Ham United's academy in 1997. Having previously played as a striker, he was converted into a central midfield player and helped the team to win the 1998–99 FA Youth Cup. Carrick broke into the club's first team during the 1999-00 season, making eight league appearances for West Ham and several more during loan spells at Swindon and Birmingham. From the 2000-01 season onwards, he became an important first team player.
