Bio

Montee Ball, Jr. is a second year running back for the Denver Broncos. The former Heisman Trophy finalist was drafted out of Wisconsin by the Broncos with the 58th overall selection in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Early Years & College

Ball was born on December 5, 1990 in McPherson, KS. After amassing over 8,000 rushing yards as a four-year starter at Wentzville Timberland High School in Wentzville, MO, Ball enrolled at the University of Wisconsin. The former Badger running back shattered several Big Ten and NCAA rushing records during his outstanding collegiate career, including rushing for an NCAA Division I-FBS record 77 touchdowns. He also holds the NCAA record for most total touchdowns in a career with 83.

Ball played an integral role on offense immediately after stepping on campus, playing in nine games as a freshman and eventually earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore following the 2010 season. After splitting carries with John Clay and James White during his first two seasons at Wisconsin, he began destroying school and conference records as a junior during the 2011 campaign. In a romp against the Purdue Boilermakers, he scored four touchdowns and broke the single-season school record with 146 total points scored.

He finished the season with nearly 2,000 rushing yards and his 39 rushing touchdowns tied former Oklahoma State star Barry Sanders for the most ever in a single FBS season. He earned All Big-Ten First Team honors and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy balloting. Instead of bypassing his senior season to go the NFL, however, Ball chose to return to Wisconsin for his senior season. He gashed opponents once again for 1,830 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns, helping him win the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back.

Denver Broncos

After joining the Broncos following the 2013 draft, Ball struggled with fumbles during the preseason and didn’t make much of an impact during the early portion of Denver’s schedule. Once he adjusted to the league, he earned more playing time and ended up rushing for 559 yards, a 4.7 yards per carry average, and four rushing touchdowns as a rookie.
