Moyes in the dark over Fabregas deal

Manchester United boss David Moyes is determined to add to his squad before the season starts, but is unsure over a deal for Cesc Fabregas.

The Premier League champions have seen a number of bids for the Barcelona midfielder rebuffed, with the Liga outfit determined to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

United have already missed out on deals for reported targets Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman, who joined Bayern Munich and Roma respectively, as Moyes goes about replacing the retired Paul Scholes.

With bids reportedly reaching £35million having already been sent out to Camp Nou, Moyes is uncertain if United will up their offer further, although he remains bullish that additions will be made.

"I couldn't tell you if there will be another bid," the Scot said.

"Obviously we'll take stock and make a decision on what we do next.

"We hope we will do (sign new players), but what we've got is a good squad already. You can't forget about the quality that's already here.

"Undoubtedly we hope to add to it and I'm quite confident we'll do that, certainly before the window shuts."

Young full-back Guillermo Varela remains United's only signing of the close-season as they go about defending their Premier League crown, which they won at a canter last term.

Their biggest rivals for the title, Manchester City and Chelsea, have both strengthened significantly, while Arsenal remain in the market for big signings, despite being frustrated by missing out on the likes of Jesus Navas, to City, and Gonzalo Higuain, who has joined Napoli.
