Michigan would like to get back to elite status. If you read one of my earlier pieces, they aren't there — no matter how many maize and blue shirts sell.
To do that, a legitimate stay in the Top 25 is necessary. And to do that, the Wolverines need to prove they are a Big Ten power. To do that, they need to beat Nebraska (Nov. 9) at home.
Michigan may lose to Notre Dame in Week 2, but I think a much more devastating loss would be to the Huskers in Ann Arbor. Nebraska returns Taylor Martinez as well as Ameer Abdullah for a dynamic rushing tandem that will be hard to stop. Michigan must protect its turf to earn the notoriety it sometimes already gets.
Prediction: Nebraska makes it another failed season for the Wolverines. Nebraska will be good this season and if it shores up its defense, even a little, it can play with anyone. Michigan will struggle at linebacker and in the secondary.
