MWC Matchups: Is Boise Back On Track?

Created on Sept. 12, 2013 3:15 PM EST

Who: Air Force (1-1, 0-1 MWC) at Boise State (1-1, 0-0 MWC)

When: 6 p.m. MT

Where: Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho

On The Air: ESPN

On The Board: BSU by 24

On The Line: The sky isn’t falling in Boise, after all. After a bad beat in Washington, the Broncos rebounded for a big win against Tennessee-Martin. The Falcons looked out-gunned against Utah State last week. Look for another big Boise State win this week.

Who: Cal Poly (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) at Colorado State (0-2, 0-0 MWC)

When: 1:30 p.m. MT

Where: Hughes Stadium, Fort Collins, Colo.

On The Air: Mountain West Digital Network

On The Board: CSU by 9

On The Line: The Rams lost a tough one to Tulsa last week and Cal Poly didn’t look like a total pushover against Fresno State. If the Rams can’t pull this one off at home, you have to shudder at what will happen when they face Alabama next week.

Who: New Mexico (1-1, 0-0 MWC) at Pittsburgh (0-1, 0-0 ACC)

When: 10:30 a.m. MT

Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh.

On The Air: ESPN 3

On The Board: Pittsburgh by 21.5

On The Line: We still don’t know about Bob Davie’s team yet. They looked competent against UTEP last week. Even in a down year, Pitt should be the deeper team and handle the Lobos. A 2-1 record going into a bye week would be considered a huge victory for this team, but don’t count on it.

Who: Weber State (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) at Utah State (1-1, 1-0 MWC)

When: 6 p.m. MT

Where: Romney Stadium, Logan, Utah.

On The Air: ESPN3

On The Board: USU by 36

On The Line: This one is easy to call: Two weeks ago, the Aggies lost to Utah on the road by four. Last week, Weber State lost to Utah on the road by 63. USU should go into a winnable game against USC next week at 2-1.

Who: Northern Colorado (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) at Wyoming (1-1, 0-0 MWC)

When: 2 p.m. MT

Where: War Memorial Stadium, Laramie, Wyo.

On The Air: None

On The Board: Wyoming by 26.5

On The Line: Wyoming didn’t have any trouble with Idaho last week, and they shouldn’t have any trouble with Northern Colorado. The Cowboys aren’t used to a lot of success, however. Winning the games they are supposed to is an important step to becoming contenders.

Who: Fresno State (2-0, 0-0 MWC) at Colorado (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12)

When: 11 a.m. PT

Where: Folsom Field, Boulder, Colo.

On The Air: Pac-12 Network

On The Board: FSU by 9.5

On The Line: Fresno State needed overtime to eek out a win against their only other FBS opponent this year, Rutgers. We’ll also see how the Bulldogs perform on the road. We’ll learn a lot about their potential to bust the BCS on Saturday in Colorado.

Who: Nevada (1-1, 0-0 MWC) at Florida State (1-0, 1-0 ACC)

When: 12:30 p.m. PT

Where: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.

On The Air: Pac-12 Network

On The Board: FSU by 34

On The Line: Two good quarterbacks face off in Cody Fajardo and freshman sensation Jameis Winston. Fajardo will have to pull off a miracle to win this one.

Who: Central Michigan (1-1, 0-0 MAC) at UNLV (0-2, 0-0 MWC)

When: 7 p.m. PT

Where: Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas

On The Air: Mountain West Digital Network

On The Board: UNLV by 7

On The Line: After getting blown out by two teams from major conferences, the Rebels get a bit of a breather against Central Michigan. If the UNLV defense gives up 50 points like it did that last two weeks, it could mean another long season in Sin City.
