Nate Sudfeld is a quarterback for the Indiana University Hoosiers of the Big Ten Conference. Entering the 2014 season he has the second highest completion percentage (60.2) in program history.
Sudfeld attended Modesto Christian High School in California. He was named second-team all-state as a senior and threw for 2,332 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns. ESPN.com ranked Sudfeld as the 14th best quarterback recruit in the country. His brothers, Matthew and Zach, both played college football as well, with Zach currently a tight end for the New York Jets.
Sudfeld played right away as a true freshman for the Hoosiers in 2012 as he appeared in seven games. He threw for 632 yards and seven touchdowns while only getting picked off once. Sudfeld became the third true freshman quarterback to see the field in IU history. He was named the school offensive player of the week for his performances against Ball State and Illinois. Sudfeld was also co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week after he threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. At the end of the year the Big Ten Network selected Sudfeld as an Honorable Mention for their All-Big Ten Freshman team.
Sudfeld started eight games in 2013 as a sophomore and threw for 2,523 yards and 21 touchdowns while getting picked off nine times. He finished third in the Big Ten in yards per completion as he averaged 13 yards per completed pass. Sudfeld finished the season with three 300-yard passing performances and two four touchdown games. His first career start came against Bowling Green where Sudfeld threw for 335 yards and two passing touchdowns as well as his first career rushing score. He was named the team’s offensive player of the week against Indiana State and earned a spot on the Big Ten’s All-Academic Team.
