Bio

Álvaro Negredo Sánchez, known simply as Álvaro Negredo, was born in Madrid, Spain on 20 August 1985. A talented centre forward, he is known for his excellent finishing, his aerial ability and his strong work ethic.

Having started his career in Rayo Vallecano's youth academy, Negredo made his professional debut for the side during the 2004-05 Segunda División B season. He scored one goal for the club before moving to Real Madrid in the summer of 2005. During his time on Real Madrid's books, he played for the club's 'B' team, Real Madrid Castilla, scoring 22 goals in 65 appearances. However, he was unable to break into the first team and completed a move to Almería prior to the 2007-08 season.

Over the course of two seasons with Almería, Negredo enhanced his reputation, scoring 32 goals for the club and finishing as their top goalscorer in both campaigns. In the summer of 2009, Real Madrid made use of a buy-back clause in his contract in order to bring Negredo back to Madrid and he subsequently featured in pre-season matches. Yet, with the likes of Gonzalo Higuaín, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Karim Benzema and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar already at the club, manager Manuel Pellegrini advised him to move again in order to get first team opportunities. Later that summer, he joined Sevilla for a €15 million transfer fee.

During four seasons with Sevilla, Negredo became even more prolific, reaching double figures for goals in each of those seasons. In 2010-11, he reached 20 goals in a single season for the first time, while in 2012-13, he reached the 30 goal mark in all competitions. The 2009-10 season also brought with it the first major trophy of Negredo's career, the Copa del Rey. Ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, he moved to Manchester City, where he was reunited with Manuel Pellegrini. In November 2013, during a Champions League match with CSKA Moscow, he scored his first hattrick for the club.

In terms of international football, Negredo has played for Spain's senior team since 2009, but has struggled to break into the side on a consistent basis. Although he missed out on the 2010 World Cup, he was included as part of Spain's Euro 2012 squad. Negredo featured in two matches during the tournament, and Spain eventually won the competition.
