Nevada defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton has accepted a job as an assistant linebackers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, multiple news outlets reported Saturday evening.
Hazelton and Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley coached together at North Dakota State and Fort Lewis College, and the move surely represents a bump in pay for the coach as well.
Nevada coach Brian Polian hired Hazelton shortly after becoming the Wolf Pack head man in January 2013.
"I know that it was not an easy decision for Scottie and his wife, Brooke, but the opportunity to be with one of his mentors in Coach Bradley and work in the NFL pulled him away. We appreciate all of the work that he has done here over the last year and we wish both him and his family nothing but the best moving forward. The search for a new defensive coordinator has already begun and we will have the right person in place shortly,” Polian said in a statement.
The Wolf Pack defense struggled during the 2013 season, giving up an average of 7.1 yards per play according to CFBstats.com.
