New England Dominate Orlando In Crucial Eastern Conference Clash
On Saturday, the New England Revolution cruised to victory against Orlando City SC, winning 3-0. The victory earned the Revs a crucial three points, catapulting them into a probable playoff spot as they are now within four points of the Eastern Conference leaders, DC United.
The New England crowd of almost 19,000 saw a match that was always in the Revs’ control, as the first half was an onslaught from the home side’s attacking players. The first goal finally came in the 43rd minute as red-hot Diego Fagundez sent home a volley on a beautiful chip from midfielder Lee Nguyen.
The Revs continued to press, and were not rewarded again until the 84th minute. Juan Agudelo made an excellent run past the Orlando defense while Teal Bunbury sent a flawless through ball to the streaking Agudelo.
The final goal came in the 94th minute as Lee Nguyen and Chris Tierney connected for a goal to finish the game at 3-0. Tierney finished the last of multiple chances on goal that he had had throughout the game, and he had created many more. The attack-minded left back had spent the day putting dangerous crosses into the box only to have nobody on the receiving end.
The win wasn’t difficult for New England, and their constant pressing and attack-minded play will have to continue. With a tough road tilt against Toronto FC next week, playoff matchups will be on the line.
