Nick Kwiatkoski returns to lead the West Virginia Mountaineers defense after garnering honorable mention all-Big 12 honors in 2013. He started 10 games and lead the team in tackles with 86. He was No. 6 in the Big 12 and 30th nationally in solo tackles and was second on the team in interceptions with three. The 6-2, 235-pounder is a converted defensive back and has 11 starts under his belt. He’s earned preseason all-conference mention heading into the 2014 season and will be counted on to lead the Mountaineers defensively.
Attended Bethel Park High School in Bethel Park, Pa., where he starred as a wide receiver and safety. He missed the first two months of his senior season with a back injury and wound up on the rivals.com Pennsylvania postseason top 40 list.
Redshirted his true freshman season in 2011, then saw action in all 12 games at Sam linebacker during the 2012 campaign, including a start against Kansas. Spent most of his time on special teams and finished with 28 tackles and three pass breakups. As a redshirt sophomore in 2013, he moved to the Will linebacker spot and flourished. In addition to his tackles, he recorded three interceptions and had a career-high 14 tackles against Iowa State.
