Ohio State's Spencer Doesn't Understand Pecking Order
Ohio State would wipe the floor with Alabama.
That's the story wide receiver Evan Spencer is sticking to, according to ESPN's Austin Ward. The story came about when it was revealed that Buckeyes' head coach Urban Meyer voted Alabama No. 1 and Ohio State No. 2 in his latest poll.
In Spencer's exact words, "I'm a little biased. I think we'd wipe the field with both of them," apparently referring to Alabama and Florida State.
Now, I'll leave the reaction concerning Florida State to the ACC writers, but I have to address the SEC.
In what universe does Spencer think that the Buckeyes would wipe the field with the Crimson Tide? The Buckeyes have played two ranked teams this year, beating then-No. 23 Wisconsin (30-24) and then-No. 16 Northwestern (40-30). And let's not forget that the Buckeyes almost lost to the Wildcats, a team that has gone on to lose four more since then.
Alabama, on the other hand, manhandled Virginia Tech to begin the year, won a shootout against Texas A&M and just dominated LSU.
Then there is Ohio State's record against SEC teams —1-10.
So, all that I can say to Spencer is, "Really?"
