New England Patriots DB Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of a DUI Thursday morning, according to Jay Withrow of the Omaha World Herald. Police pulled Dennard over after his car was seen straddling two lanes at 2:00 a.m. The 24-year-old refused a chemical test and driving infraction, and was taken to a detox center.
Dennard is sure to face extra disciplinary action by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, as this is his second run-in with the law in about a year. He was convicted of assaulting a Lincoln police officer last year, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
The judge overseeing his case, Lancaster County Judge Stephanie Stacy, has delayed his jail time to March 2014. Dennard’s lawyer has filed a motion to have his sentence suspended if he complied with all parts of his probation, but this latest brush with the law is sure to complicate matters.
