Patriots Release CB Ras-I Dowling
By Allen Kim
The New England Patriots have released the No. 33 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, Ras-I Dowling.
Selected with the first pick in the second round of the 2011 draft, Dowling has been a non-factor for the Patriots. While he has shown promise, he hasn’t been able to stay on the field long enough to really develop or showcase his talents.
Dowling was injury prone in college, and he hasn’t been able to stay healthy in the NFL either. His rookie season ended prematurely due to a torn tendon in his leg, and a torn quadriceps muscle ended his sophomore campaign early.
He has only played in a total of eight games through two seasons for New England, and it’s hard to see him staying healthy enough to ever put together a full season.
Entering what should have been his third season in the NFL, it became increasingly clear that his roster spot was in jeopardy. There’s a chance that some team will gamble on him, but he’s likely to clear waivers first.
