According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen broke a small bone in his wrist, and he’s set to undergo surgery that will keep him out of action for at least the next 2-3 weeks.
This is just another blow to the Patriots offense. Luckily for the team, Danny Amendola should be fine for next week, and Rob Gronkowski is nearly ready to rejoin the lineup.
Vereen broke out against the Buffalo Bills, rushing for 101 yards on 14 carries while adding another 58 yards through the air on seven receptions. He was the only running back across the entire league to surpass the century mark in Week 1.
Vereen took over after starting RB Stevan Ridley was benched after a second-quarter fumble, and Ridley never saw the field again after that. While Ridley immediately landed in coach Bill Belichick’s doghouse, he’s going to get a second chance now that Vereen is sidelined.
