The New England Patriots offense could really use some help right about now, and there’s a chance that they’re going to get a big boost this weekend when they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. ESPN’s Ed Werder reported earlier today that TE Rob Gronkowski “is 50/50 to play in Week 3.”
Gronkowski has been practicing with the team over the last two weeks, and by all accounts, he looks good and ready to return to the field. ESPN’s Field Yates reported yesterday that he “seems to be steadily improving,” and that he “seems closer to a return than [Danny] Amendola.”
Knowing the Patriots and their approach to injury reports, Gronkowski will likely be listed as questionable for this Sunday. We probably won’t know for sure if he’ll even play until Sunday morning rolls around.
Tom Brady can use all the help he can get at this point. The young, inexperienced receivers he’s had to resort to in their passing attack have failed to step up, and defenses seem to make it a priority to bottle up RB Stevan Ridley. Gronkowski’s presence alone should help to alleviate all of their problems on offense.
