Peru Primera Division Wrap: Real Garcilaso close in on title

Real Garcilaso maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the Peru Primera Division with a narrow 1-0 win at Union Comercio.

Defender Jaime Huerta scored the only goal in the 24th minute as Real Garcilaso preserved their gap over Universitario, who thumped third-placed Sporting Cristal 3-0.

After an even first half, Universitario opened the scoring in the 62nd minute through Diego Chavez before Rainer Torres and substitute Diego Guastavino scored in the 74th and 84th minutes respectively.

Two late strikes from midfielder Diego Manicero propelled Leon de Huanuco into sixth place as they overcame Juan Aurich 2-0.

Manicero struck on 72 and 82 minutes to secure a crucial away victory for his side.

Substitute German Alemanno's double kept Cesar Vallejo in fourth position with a 2-0 victory over Pacifico.

UTC Cajamarca secured a 2-0 away triumph at Sport Huancayo, with strikes in either half from Hugo Souza and Victor Guaza.

In other Saturday results, two goals in the last 10 minutes snatched three points for Universidad San Martin against Inti Gas in a 2-0 win while Melgar came from behind and scored an 88th-minute winner to defeat Jose Galvez 2-1.

On Sunday, Cienciano survived a late fightback to hold on 2-1 against Alianza Lima.
