Preview: Sky Blue FC vs. Dash
(July 1, 2014) – Sky Blue FC and the Houston Dash take to the field Wednesday with each looking to kick star their offense.
The two teams enter Wednesday match tied for the fewest goals in the league and with both being held without a goal in Week 12.
Despite not scoring for the fifth time this season, coach Jim Gabarra will no doubt be proud of his team’s effort as SBFC became just the third side this year to earn a point against league-leading Seattle Reign FC with a 0-0 road draw on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Brittany Cameron registered her second shutout in her sixth start of the season for Sky Blue FC behind the backline of Christie Rampone, Kendall Johnson, Caitlin Foord and Lindsi Cutshall.
The shutout was the third in the last eight games for the SBFC defense and was the first time all season the Reign have been held without a goal.
The draw against Seattle wrapped a successful two-game road trip to the Pacific Northwest for SBFC that also saw the team notch a victory over defending NWSL Champions Portland Thorns FC.
The game Wednesday is the second of three meetings between the two clubs this season.
Houston registered a franchise-record 3-0 victory over SBFC in the previous math between the two sides – with forward Tiffany McCarty scoring twice, forward Ella Masar adding a goal and goalkeeper Erin McLeod making seven saves in the win for the Dash.
Hoston comes into the contest on the heels of two straight losses after falling 1-0 to the Washington Spirit in Week 12, but still could overtake SBFC in the standings with a victory.
The Dash will return home to BBVA Compass Stadium following the match Wednesday to begin a three-game home stand that will see the expansion club take on the Western New York Flash, Boston Breakers and Spirit.
