Real Madrid have unveiled plans to redevelop the Bernabeu that Florentino Perez hopes will turn the stadium into "the best in the world".
The iconic ground is to undergo an extensive revamp, including the construction of a new exterior complete with retractable roof, at the cost of an estimated €400million (£328m), with reports suggesting the work will be completed in 2017.
And Real president Perez is confident that the new-look Bernabeu will be transformed into the world's premier sporting venue.
"We want to turn the Santiago Bernabeu into the best stadium in the world and to create a better football experience for the fans," said Perez on Friday as he unveiled the ambitious plans.
"The best stadium in a unique location that will be a global symbol.
"Our commitment is to continue increasing the heritage of our club, thus gain in economic strength, so we can continue to lead in an environment of increasing competition.
"We believe in a project that will enhance our image, brand and city that we also feel proud of."
