Regular football key for Gustavo

Luiz Gustavo has revealed the lure of regular first-team football was a motivating factor behind his move to Wolfsburg.

The Brazil international midfielder completed his move from Bayern Munich on a five-year deal on Friday after spending the last two years at the Bundesliga champions.

His chances of a regular spot in Pep Guardiola's starting XI this season were hindered by Thiago Alcantara's arrival from Barcelona.

Gustavo, 26, had been touted with a move to Premier League outfit Arsenal but he decided to prolong his stay in Germany.

And he said the choice was made after a conversation with Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, as he seeks to secure a place in his country's squad for next year's FIFA World Cup.

"He (Scolari) spoke his mind and that helped me find a decision," Gustavo said.

"There were many other factors, too. The situation was not easy but I was in a luxury position.

"Wolfsburg are a top club. I like Germany. The security the country gives me. I have considered everything. I knew about everything. My heart decided on Wolfsburg.

"Wolfsburg have always been after me. They wanted me from the very beginning. That is the reason, I am here. It is a good project."
