Bio

Richard Kevin Sherman was born in Compton, California on March 30, 1988. A cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks, he is a one-time Super Bowl champion, has twice been named first team All-Pro by the Associated Press and was ranked at number 50 in the 2013 NFL Top 100 Players list.

Sherman attended Dominguez High School in Compton, where he was a standout performer in both football and track. During his senior year, he registered a total of 1,030 all-purpose yards and contributed 45 tackles and one interception, as he helped the team to win the CIF Southern Section Division III Championship.

For college, Sherman opted to go to Stanford University and began playing for the football team as a wide receiver in 2006, receiving freshman All-American honors. After suffering a serious knee injury in 2008, he made the switch to cornerback upon his return and contributed a total of 112 tackles throughout his last two seasons. In the process, he helped the team to achieve a 12-1 record in 2010, which was his last year of eligibility.

The 2011 NFL Draft saw Sherman selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round, as the 154th overall pick. He started ten games over the course of his rookie season and impressed with his performances, managing 55 tackles, 16 passes defended and four interceptions. As a result, he was included in the PFW All-Rookie Team. Sherman went on to enjoy an excellent second season and was considered a shock omission from the Pro Bowl. He was, however, named first team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

In the 2013 season, Sherman played a significant role in helping the Seahawks to win the NFC Championship and the Super Bowl, leading the entire National Football League for interceptions throughout the season. During the NFC Championship Game, he contributed a game-saving interception, which was affectionately dubbed 'The Immaculate Deflection', helping to ensure the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers. Then, at Super Bowl XLIII, Sherman was part of an excellent defence which helped to see off the Denver Broncos. His performances earned him a second consecutive year as a first team All-Pro and the first Pro Bowl selection of his career.
