Bio

Robert Quinn plays defensive end for the St. Louis Rams. After starring at the University of North Carolina, he led the NFC in sacks in 2013 and earned First-Team All-Pro distinction.

Early Years

Quinn was born in Ladson, SC on May 18, 1990 and excelled as a football player and wrestler at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, SC. He was three-time state heavyweight champion on the wrestling mat, but he was an even more dominant defensive end for the football team. He entered his senior season ranked as the 19th best defensive end prospect in the country by Scout.com and registered 54 tackles and 5.0 sacks before his season was cut short by a benign brain tumor that needed surgically removed. He recovered quickly from the surgery and was cleared to return the football field.

University of North Carolina

Fully recovered from his brain operation, Quinn accepted a scholarship offer to play at North Carolina. He started 12 games for the Tar Heels as a true freshman, registering 34 tackles and 2.0 sacks while finishing third in the voting for the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year award. As a sophomore, he led the conference with 19.0 tackles for a loss and ranked 16th in the country with 11.0 sacks, eventually earning First-Team All-ACC and All-American second team recognition. An academic scandal prevented him from playing a down during his junior season, and he declared for the 2011 NFL Draft.

St. Louis Rams

A year away from football did little to affect Quinn’s draft stock, and the St. Louis Rams selected him with the 14th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. He agreed to terms with the team on a four-year deal and recorded 5.0 sacks during his rookie campaign. He emerged as a dynamic pass rusher in 2012, making 29 tackles and 10.5 sacks. In 2013, he led the NFL with 19.0 sacks and created seven forced fumbles en route to being named First-Team All-Pro and making his first Pro Bowl appearance.
