(June 24, 2014) - Sky Blue FC announced today the club has signed midfielder Nikki Stanton. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Nikki has earned this contract by her play and development as a reserve and in the times she has been called up to the first team," Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra said. "She will provide us with another defensive midfield option."
Before signing with Sky Blue FC, Stanton was an amateur call-up from the Sky Blue FC Reserve team. She received her first call up on May 7 during SBFC's home match against the Chicago Red Stars. Stanton then made her National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) debut as an amateur on June 15 during the Chicago match in Lisle, Ill., playing for 17 minutes.
As a member of the Sky Blue FC Reserves, Stanton played a key role in helping the squad win its first two games.
Prior to joining SBFC, Stanton was a member of the Fairfield University women's soccer team for five seasons, missing the 2009 campaign due to rehabbing a knee injury. During the 2013 season, Stanton led the team in assists with seven while also scoring two goals. She was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2013 All-Northeast Region First Team, the fifth Stag in program history to receive the honor.
Stanton was also a member of the Seattle Sounders Women, who compete in the W-League. During the 2012 season, she played with a dozen players with national team experience, including five members of the 2012 US Olympic Team. Stanton saw 186 minutes in six games with the Sounders Women.
