Stephen Rivers To Transfer To Vandy
Stephen Rivers, the 6-foot-7 little brother of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, is set to transfer from LSU to Vanderbilt after graduating in May, according to reports.
The younger Rivers at one time was the backup to Zach Mettenberger, but got passed on the depth chart by Anthony Jennings.
Rivers will have two seasons of eligibility left.
"I took a visit there and really enjoyed it," Rivers said, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "It's a good option for me because it's really close to home. It's not official and I'm still trying to get everything worked out. I'm still open. I'm going to see how things are going to work out."
Rivers should be headed to Nashville, Tenn., pending university admission, which shouldn't be a problem according to one report.
According to The Tennessean, Rivers likely would compete with sophomore Patton Robinette and redshirt freshman Johnny McCrary for the starting quarterback job.
LSU did not place a restriction on Rivers, meaning he was allowed to transfer to any school, a rare move in 2014. The Tigers and Commodores are not scheduled to play each other during the 2014 regular season.
