Stoke City Football Club can lay claim to being the second oldest football club in the world having been formed in 1863 as the Stoke Ramblers FC. They were one of the original founding members of the Football League in 1888.
Stoke City currently play in the Premier League after winning promotion in 2008. Their highest finish in the top division of English football was in 1936 and 1947 when they finished fourth.
The club has won one major honour in its history, the 1972 League Cup when they beat Chelsea Football Club 2-1 at Wembley Stadium. Stoke earned promotion to the Premier League in 2008 after a 23-year break from the top flight.
Stoke’s home ground since 1979 has been the Britannia Stadium. It boasts a capacity of 28,384 however there are plans to increase the capacity to over 30,000. The Potters former home was the Victoria Ground, which has been their home stadium since 1878.
