Texans WR Andre Johnson Avoids Major Injury
More bad news for Andre Johnson as he was unable to finish his second consecutive game after getting kicked in the shin in the third quarter, per the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain. Nick Mathews of the Ultimate Texans Blog reported that coach Gary Kubiak had confirmed that X-rays were negative.
This spelled bad news for fantasy owners, but an injury like this shouldn’t linger too long. He probably won’t miss more than some practice reps if this is indeed just a bruise, and expect him to get in limited practices early this week before being full speed closer to game day. If he does somehow sit out Week 4, rookie standout DeAndre Hopkins will get a huge fantasy bump.
Johnson’s absence allowed Hopkins to rack up six catches for 60 yards. The rookie has looked great when given the opportunity so far; he now has 18 catches for 243 yards through three games. Keshawn Martin played every snap following Johnson’s exit and grabbed two balls for 35 yards.
It’s been a frustrating start for Johnson, but he has shown that when healthy, he still has plenty left in the tank. Hopefully he can shake this latest injury off and return to form next week as the team looks to bounce back against the Seahawks.
Update: Coach Kubiak said that Johnson's X-rays came back negative and that he's considered day to day.
